SARTELL - Three people had to be rescued from the Sauk River after their canoe capsized.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. last (Thursday) night near the Heim's Mill canoe access.

A canoe carrying 27-year-old Jared Stroeing of Sauk Rapids, 25-year-old Lisa Fowler of St. Cloud, and 28-year-old Scott Nordmann of St. Cloud capsized, throwing all three into the water.

Stroeing and Fowler were able to swim to shore and get out of the river on their own. Nordmann swam to an island and hung on to branches until he could be rescued.

All three were treated and released on the scene.
