ST. JOSEPH -- A free meal is being served at the American Legion Post 382 in St. Joseph on Sunday.

The first ever Joe Town Table event is meant to encourage discussions surrounding poverty in the area.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. you can enjoy a free spaghetti dinner served with a homemade sauce, Caesar salad and a variety of baked goods.

Natalie Keane is the AmeriCorps VISTA worker for the Community Kitchen. She says the inspiration for the event came from local church and community discussions surrounding poverty in the community.

Joe Town Table is a monthly event that will occur on the fourth Sunday of each month. The meal will be served buffet style with a changing menu at each event.

Students from the College of St. Benedict will be on-hand volunteering at the meal.

Organizations sponsoring the dinner include Central Minnesota Catholic Worker, Gateway, Resurrection Lutheran and St. Benedict's Monastery.
