COLD SPRING -- Cold Spring went through a lot of ups and down's in 2013. At tonight's (Wednesday) city council meeting the departments heads presented their annual reports.

The fire department responded to 337 calls over the year. They were also able to come in about $13,000 under budget. During the meeting the department did request for approval the hiring of two more employees, which the council approved.

The police department saw a busy year. Interim Police Chief Chris Boucher says they responded to over 4,000 calls which is down 582 from the year 2011. The year 2012 was not used because of the death of Officer Tom Decker. Boucher says they had two officers receive Life Saving Awards after one performed CPR to save a person's life and the other stopped a suicidal female.

As for Public Works, they are working with trying to find water for the city, as well as maintain roads ,and preparing for the frost to come out of the ground.

The city engineer reported that they are focusing on the full reconstruction of county road 50,  as well as opening up 14th avenue to Highway 23.
