EDINA (AP) — Two people are under arrest after an Edina police officer was assaulted during a traffic stop.

Edina city officials say the traffic stop happened just before 1 p.m. Monday near an intersection in the Minneapolis suburb.

Police say the driver immediately got out of the vehicle and started to assault the officer. Officers from both Edina and Richfield were called to the scene, and quickly arrested both the driver and the passenger.

Both suspects are currently in custody.

Police say the Edina officer was not injured and was able to continue his shift for the day.
