ST. CROIX FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin authorities say the body of a 14-year-old Minnesota girl has been recovered from the St. Croix River.

Polk County Sheriff Peter Johnson says Taw Meh of St. Paul was on a canoe outing with a sibling and friends Sunday afternoon when she stepped off a sand bar south of Interstate Park and was swept into the current.

Johnson says witnesses saw the girl go under but not come back up. The sheriff says the group had just taken a break and was relaxing on the sand bar.

Authorities were notified about 3:20 p.m. The sheriff says a dive team recovered the teen's body about 3½ hours later not far from where she went into the water.
