1 Hurt, 50 Evacuated in Fire at Burnsville Generating Station

BURNSVILLE (AP) - Xcel Energy says one employee was hurt and about 50 others were evacuated after fire broke out at generating station in Burnsville.

Fire in the Unit 4 coal bunker at the Black Dog generating station was reported about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Xcel says the employee who was injured was taken to an area hospital.

The utility says the employees who were evacuated were allowed back in the plant, which continues to operate.

The coal-fired plant was built in the 1950s. Units 1 and 2 have been converted to natural gas while Units 3 and 4 use coal and natural gas.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
