PENNOCK -- One person died and eight others were hurt in a broadside crash in Kandiyohi County on Saturday night.

The state patrol says the incident happened just before 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Road 7, about nine miles west of Willmar.

A Ford Fusion traveling south on County Road 7 was broadsided by a car going west on Highway 12.

The driver of the Fusion, a 55-year-old from Venice, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. The name has not yet been released.

The two passengers in the Fusion, 46-year-old Maria Vlachouhahn and Eva Vlachouhahn, both of Venice, California, each suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car, 31-year-old Diego Velazquez Sanchez of Kerkhoven, and his passengers, 33-year-old Jose Cabrera Ortega of Clara City, 26-year-old Sergio Delgado, 26-year-old Martha Lopez, 6-year-old Paulina Lopez, and infant Dante Velazquez, all suffered non life-threatening injuries.
